Previous CASE International Conferences and the Thematic Objectives of the 2011 Conference
CASE – Center for Social and Economic Research is an international, non-profit research and advisory institution working on European integration, and policy reforms in Europe and the European neighborhood in the context of globalization and other world economic trends. Periodically, CASE organizes an international conference which gathers researchers, analysts, policymakers and representatives of the business community from Europe, North America, and many Asian and Middle East countries. Six such conferences have been organized to date:
- Economic Scenarios for Poland (Warsaw, January 18, 1997);
- Ten Years After: Transition and Growth in Post-Communist Countries (Warsaw, October 15-16, 1999);
- Beyond Transition: Development Perspectives and Dilemmas (Falenty, April 12-13, 2002)
- Europe after the Enlargement (Warsaw, April 8-9, 2005)
- Winds of Change: The Impact of Globalization on Europe and Asia (Kyiv, March 23-24, 2007)
- The Return of History: From Consensus to Crisis (Falenty, November 20-21, 2009)
CASE international conferences focus on the most current and critical economic policy issues facing Europe and the global economy. The 2011 Conference will consider the challenges facing the European integration process in the global context of the post-financial-crisis environment and uncertain economic growth prospects, the dangers of new bubbles and inflation, rapidly growing public debt, the unfinished agenda of financial sector rehabilitation and new regulatory architecture, and the rebalancing of economic power in favor of large emerging-market players.
Facing these challenges, the European Union and its member states must find the right policy responses to avoid economic stagnation and high unemployment, stop the fiscal crisis and save the Euro as the common currency, rehabilitate the financial sector, and improve economic governance systems on both Union and national levels. In addition, the EU cannot forget about the (unfinished) agenda of its further enlargement, promoting economic development and good governance in the EU neighborhood, and its contribution to global free trade, macroeconomic stability and improved global policy coordination.
Thus, the seventh CASE International Conference will examine growth and employment strategies in Europe, financial sector reform (globally and in Europe), EU and global economic governance reform, fiscal crisis resolution, EU enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy. These issues will be the central focus of five conference sessions and keynote addresses.
Organization of the Conference
The CASE 2011 International Conference will be held on November 18-19, 2011 at the Falenty Conference Center, which is located in the vicinity of Warsaw near to the Warsaw International Airport.
The two-day agenda will contain 5 thematic sessions and 1-2 keynote addresses. Each session will feature four to five invited panelists. Speakers and commentators will represent the highest level of international expertise in their respective fields.
The conference will gather 100 participants from Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia. Participants will include researchers, policy experts and analysts drawn from academia, economic policy research institutes, international organizations, European institutions and financial institutions. Invitations will also be addressed to the business community, policymakers and selected professional media. The international audience of the conference implies that papers, comments and discussion will focus on global and European perspectives, rather than on the perspectives of any particular country.
